What Causes Chest Pain?

I m a 13 year old boy. I did gymnastics for 8 years but stopped last summer and I m not that active anymore. I go to the gym about once or twice a week. Normally, I play on my laptop for a long time, sometimes 4-7 hours a day. :/. Sometimes, I get really bad chest pains in my heart. Tonight, I experienced the worst chest pain I ve had ever. It stung really badly and it felt as if something was stuck in my chest for a second. Also, last week when I was running with my friends, I experienced an awful chest pain where I doubled over and couldn t breathe. What should I do?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Chest pain is a frequent complaint in the adolescent age group. Although rarely cardiovascular etiology.
The most common reason for chest pain is due to musculoskeletal like costochondritis,or injury chest wall. And the other causes include asthma, pleuritic chest pain, and cardic origin(rare in children).

Most of the people with chest pain simply want reassurance that symptoms are not cardiac in origin.
A careful history and physical examination are more important.
A normal chest x-ray and ECG can provide you some reassurance.

Further cardiology consultation is rarely required but should be considered when experiencing chest pain with exercises.
