What Causes Chest Pain While Suffering From Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy?

I have been tacking both citalopram and omeprazole for 6 months or so I do have a heart condition called Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I was diagnosed a year ago. I have slight chest pain at times, also at times shortness of breath along with light headed feeling. I usually have a slight fluttering feeling in my throat. Neither my general dr. or the cardiologist see a problem other than the obvious symptoms of the heart problem. I am or was a very active 56 year old male. I was advised to not push as hard as I am used to. I would like to try Cannabis therapy to replace some of the meds I am on. I also have osteoarthritis. What do you think? Just whant the best life I can get.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Chest pain and difficulty in breathing are obviously due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Pain in particular might be suggestive of ischemic changes in heart muscle due to hypertrophy.

please do ECG and angiography to rule out coronary vessel block. Which medicine has been prescribed to you for cardiomyopathy? Furosemide, enalapril, amldipine, aspirin and atorvastatin are some important medicines required for your condition.

Do not replace any medicines on your own and most importantly don't use cannabis without medical advice. For better life, you should try meditation and yoga for stress management which is affecting your heart problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
