What Causes Chest Pain Upon Breathing?

Hi there! My trachea hurts as well as into my chest when I breath. Particularly a deep breath. I also feel short of breath..it started the last two days or so...I also stopped smoking and on day 2! I am so worried that I have throat cancer...my biggest fear is ending up with a voice box!! I gave up smoking for 6 years ago and fell off track 12 mths ago! However I am now back on track but fear it s too late. I am so scared of it being cancer and how annoyed I am for starting smoking again. Thank you!

Hi, I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Answer: There could be a number of reasons for the pain you are having during breathing. it might be originating from musculoskeletal structures, lungs, pleura (lung covering), nerves etc. So please do not directly associate it with cancer.

Some of the signs and symptoms of throat cancer are; weight loss, hoarseness (voice change), difficulty in swallowing, constant throat discomfort, persistent cough, sputum with blood, swollen glands in the neck etc.

As you are worried, I would recommend that you get a throat and chest examination from a doctor.

Hope this helps.
