What Causes Chest Pain And Shoulder Spasms While On Levofloxacin And Benzonatate?

My MOTHER IS 102 YEARS OF AGE AND IN UNUSUALLY GOD HELTH BUT she curently has bronchitis. She is taking Levofloxacin 500 mg 1 table daily and is on her 4th day of 7 pills. (Generic for Levaquin) Also Benzonatate 200 mg two tablets per day. I did Not give her the Benzonatate today. WE LIVE in California. lAST NIGHT she said her head hurt and then she like had a spasm from shoulder up. 5 times. She has some now. What should I do. I am very worried.

Hello,

Levofloxacin and Benzonatate can not cause chest pain, headache and muscular spasm. So we should definitely search for another cause for it. Since she is above hundreds of years, we should definitely rule out heart diseases for these symptoms.

So better to take her to the doctor and get done blood pressure monitoring, ECG, 2d echo. If all these are normal, then no need to worry about heart diseases. Simple musculoskeletal pain can be the cause. So give her painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen.
