Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a high sitting pulse rate of 150. I ve always had a normal pulse rate before. It was between 105 - 150 for the next 90 minutes and then went back to normal. Then last night I had some pains in my chest that woke me up. They went away in about 20 minutes. Any thoughts? The high pulse was on Sun. I had an EKG about 3 weeks ago as part of an evaluation to see what was causing my leg pains (the cardiologist said it looked normal taking into consideration my long qt syndrome which is considered to be a mild case). My leg pains have subsided since I have stopped taking my statin.
Dear Sir/ Madam Thanks for your query. a high heart rate can be secondary to a physiological stimulus like pain/ anxiety/ anger/ fear or from a drug or medical illness (fever, infection etc.) or it may be a rhythm disorder of heart. Best way to decipher the same is to get an ECG done at time of high heart rate. Any chest pain lasting for 20 minutes which wakes you up is important and a consultation with you doctor on emergency basis. Any normal ECG in the past, howsoever, recent it may be, is useless in reassuring that it is not a cardiac pain. Hence you must visit your doctor. Sincerely Sukhvinder
