What Causes Chest And Esophagus Pain After Ingestion?

Hey Doc. I was drinking water today at work. you know that when sometimes you drink or eat something a little too big and it hurts your esophagus on the way down? well I did that four times in a row in the hastiness of my drink. I had been sweating all day and was rather thirsty. now at the bottom of my esophagus in my chest there is a pain that won t seem to leave me alone. granted it s only been 9 hours since then. ideas?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of drinking water in large gulps and started paining in the lower chest/upper abdomen. It has been since 9 hours.
The possible causes are:
There may be existing esophagitis and large gulps can instigate pain due to spasm which usually does not so much time to settle hence I would advise you the following:
Take a PPI like Omeprazole.
Antacid liquid every hours.
Soft bland diet.
Take rest, sleep at least for 8 hours.
Alleviate the stress and anxiety.
If these primary measures do not help, go for upper GI Endoscopy.
