What Causes Changes In Bowel Movements?

for the past couple of weeks I've experienced changes in bowel movements. I'm typically regular every morning. I've had diarrhea, days where I couldn't go, then a loose stool feeling as though i'm not completely evacuating. Before I do have to go, sometimes there is cramping prior to, during and shortly after. Sometimes to the point it's difficult to leave the toilet. I've been taking a probiotic almost everyday. There are times where the stool is slightly firmer, but seems to regress back. I was in Mexico 4/25 thru 5/1. Everything was normal while I was there, this started a day or so after I returned.I'm 51, in my colonoscopy, they did find some diverticulosis.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It can be because of diverticulitis like inflammation or bacterial overgrowth like condition. Functional bowel problem also can lead such presentation. If needed Rifaximin or Metronidazole course can be prescribed. Avoid excess spicy foods. Drink more water. Taking more fiber is beneficial in diverticulitis. Get your stool routine micro examination also. Consult gastroenterologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems be nonspecific type of symptoms and it might not be due to any diseases. Sometimes diet may cause such symptoms. So try to change the diet first. If you find something different and not related to any of the symptoms, like abdominal pain, nausea, sick feeling, then there is no need to be overconscious. If the symptoms persist, then you can take antiprotozoal drugs, like Secnidazole, else it is nothing to worry about.

Hope I have answered your query, let me know if I can assist you further.
