What Causes Calluses And Very Dry Skin On Knuckles?

On my right hand, I have a callous/very dry skin patch on the knuckle of my pinkie and 4th finger. Imagine me making a fist with my right hand, the callous is at the knuckle where these two fingers meet the hand. I have had these callouses for a number of years. I am certain that they are not the result of working with my hands (I am left-handed). No other knuckles on my hands have this occurring. I ve tried to trim the dead skin, moisturize, and even used cortisone cream. Nothing seems to work. Do I have a medical condition I should be concerned about? Any advice that you can offer? Thanks so much!

Hi. I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. By the history provided all the features point towards frictional callosity. It may not mandatorily be on the dominant hand. As you mentioned the it is in places where there is skin apposition. Hence frictional callosity is most likely.
If I were your treating physician I would have started with salysilic acid 3-6% ointment and followed up after a week. Taking the history into consideration, there is nothing grave to be concerned about in my opinion. If there are anymore queries kindly feel free to ask. Wishing you best of health.
