Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Monistat, and other yeast infection creams, all contain a small amount of alcohol, which can burn cut or irritated skin.

A suggestion I can make to decrease the chance of the cream burning your skin is to apply and antibiotic ointment like bacitracin, or even plain petroleum jelly, to the area where the cut is before using Monistat. This will make the area "waterproof" and protected from the stinging of the alcohol.

Another alternative is to ask your physician for prescription for fluconazole, which is an oral medication that will cure a yeast infection. That way, you do not need to apply cream to the area in order to treat yeast infection.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that my advice was helpful. I hope your infection clears soon and that you feel better.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
