What Causes Burning Sensation On The Tongue After Inhaling Toxic Fumes?

I may have consumed on inhaled a chemical while intoxicated. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed it to be oral thrush. I was given Nystatin but my main concern is about my tongue. There is a mild but still burning sensation that seems to never go away (it has been four days since this incident occurred) Will my tongue heal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

I am sorry for the accident you had. Inhaling toxic fumes is associated with inflammation of nasal and oral mucosa at the same time.

This is clinically experienced as burning sensation in the tongue.

It is very early to admit you are fully recovered. This explains why you are still having the burning sensation in your tongue.

It might need a bit longer to completely healed.

Meanwhile I advise to avoid citrus foods or hot beverages that could aggravate the tongue irritation.

Antacids can also help.
Wish fast recovery.
