What Causes Burning Sensation In The Tongue?

Hey I have been for the longest time feeling like something is swimming in the lower part of my occipital lobe, not sure why! I have been experiencing this for years as well as it is hard to concentrate my energy level is way down. My tongue feels like it is burning all the time now. I take psych meds. I feel like I am brain dead and cannot do the things that I normally would do? This brain thing is driving me crazy up in my neck as well; so what do you think it could be?

Hi..
Thanks for the query.

Many a times certain medication can cause side effects of dry mouth and burning sensation in mouth..
As you are already taking Psych medications, they can probably be the cause for the symptoms..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated to check for dry mouth and other oral findings..
If it is the side effect of medication then your Physician can reduce the dose or change to less side effect causing drugs..
Also you can be advised symptomatic management like gargling with specialised mouthwash like Lidocaine.
Suck ice pops and do cool water rinses to reduce burning..
If there is dry mouth using mouth lubricants like oralgel and chewing sugarfree chewing gums can help..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
