What Causes Burning Sensation In The Anus After A Bowel Movement?

I HV bn getting rectal burning ( no pain) after BM. Most of times I HV no pain or burning while after BM, it normally starts 1 or 2 and some times 4 hrs later. No other problems. No blood, no occult blood (stool and blood tests normal). BM is very punctual exactly at 5.30 am and at 7 00am without pressure or efforts. What could be reason. My doctor advised lignocaine HCl 2%. But I haven t applied except once. Please advise real problem. Pblm for around 2_3. Months now. .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There are 2 main possibilities, either anal fissures or hemorrhoids (piles). Best to rule out these by visiting a proctologist, who might do a proctoscopic examination to find the cause. If you generally consume a lot of spicy food, that could also be a cause of burning sensation in the rectum.

In both anal fissures/piles, the main culprit is poor diet and constipation. So, include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, good fluids, at least 2 litres of water a day. If needed, take a laxative, like Isabgol mixed in a glass of water and consumed immediately.

If all the above are ruled out, it could be a case of proctalgia fugax, a benign condition and nothing to worry about. You could try sitting in a warm sitz bath for 20 minutes or so. Studies and Research are still going on to find out more about proctalgia fugax.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
