What Causes Bumps At The Back Of Tongue?

I m concerned about bumps on the back top and sides of my tongue. They have a light burning sensation, look very tender and a bit swollen on one side of my tongue. I started noticing these bumps and general tongue irritation about 2 mo ago, seems to have gradually gotten worse though. Other symptoms I had over the same period incl shortness of breath, which would come and go a few times during the day and lasted 2 week. Also the right side of my throat was sore for 2 Weeks, mild pain when swallowing then went away and now the left side of my throat is sore with mild pain when I swallow or apply pressure on my tonsil area. I m 37 y/o, 20 yr smoker becoming very worried about these symptoms.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Welcome in H.C.M.

I understand your concern and it appears the bumps you have noticed at the back of throat are the enlarge tonsils and are infected as well ( chronic tonsillitis )

It will be better to consult your ENT doctor for thorough examination and treatment.

Till you are waiting for specialist you may take-

1- Tab Paracetamol.

2- Warm saline gargling.

3- Avoid spicy food.

4- Take adequate fluid orally.

5- Antibiotic ( preferably broad spectrum ).

I hope above answers your query.

Thanks for consulting H.C.M.
