What Causes Bruising On The Right Thigh After A Femoral Incision?

I am a female in my mid 30 s and I have major bruising on my right thigh after a femoral incision for my cerebral angiogram. The bruising is several inches away from the incision. The bruise has gotten more red but in the past day has turned gray in many spots. It also feels numb in spots. There is still swelling too. It s been a week & a half since the procedure. My bruise has gotten worse and is now burning and I feel tingling pins and needles around different areas of my leg. I have also had abdominal cramping (that is directly related to the procedure) that has been going on since day 1. I have pain in the right groin area. And a couple inches above the incision I feel a hard lump like a rock that feels like it s a vein or an artery bulging out. The bruise does not feel hot. I have no fever. Is all of this normal? Could this be tissue death, artery occlusion, compartment syndrome, or any other complications from the procedure?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Yes it can, since compolciations after femoral artery canulation are not uncommon and pseudoaneurism may occur. Compartment is rare and there would be some other symptoms. However, in many cases there is just hematoma which may press surrounding nerves and cause numbness. In this case it will pull back in next few weeks.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
