What Causes Bruising At The Back Of The Thigh After A Hamstring Injury?

In mid-July I was water skiing and I m pretty sure I tore my hamstring. A day after the back of my leg from my buttocks to my calf was bruised. I iced and stretched frequently as we were on vacation for the week. When I returned home a week later, I went to doctor and they set me up with a physical therapist. I went to therapy for 6 weeks and it seemed to be getting better. I have full range of motion, strength in my quad and calf muscles, but can still barely leg curl 10 lbs. I ve resorted to swimming since I cannot still run like I would like to as the inside of my knee hurts and my shin starts to go numb. Also, when I do try to run it feels like I have to sling my leg forward.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a hematoma. As of now, you can apply ice packs for faster recovery. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
