What Causes Bruised Feeling In Eyes, Light Sensitive And Eye Redness?

Hi, both my eyes feel bruised and light sensitive and are a little bloodshot, this is becoming worse over the last week. I have been to the opticians. I need a higher prescription for my reading glasses and he has referred me to the hospital but also reassured me to say that he could not see anything obvious. He was able to confirm that this was not an eye infection or a response to allergies.
