What causes bruise on the thighs?

My son is 16 months old he is with my wife and I all the time. He does not walk yet but we have been noticing bruises on the inside of his thighs and lower back. Also lately has been waking up with bruises. There is no suspicion of abuse from family as he is always with us. He usually is always happy but lately seems very unhappy. He does not have any toys that lead me to believe he is getting them from those such as a bike ect. I have researched lightly on glazzmans disease. (may not have spelled that right)

Hi,

By what you quote I feel that the kid might be having a bleeding disorder, either congenital or acquired. Mostly congenital, considering the age of presentation.

The bluish discoloration you are noticing is a subcutaneous bleed or bruise and the small lump you are able to palpate is a subcutaneous blood clot.

Your child needs evaluation and I suggest you take her to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible.

This I am suggesting because - if the kid has a spontaneous bleeding like this internally, as she might require emergency blood products.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology

I bruise very very easily, I joke that you can look at me wrong and Id bruise, but its almost true! I hardly ever know how I get them. Mainly on my thighs, occasionally upper arms. They get really dark, darker than they should for the injury and last a long time. My mother used to say I need an iron supplement. Is there an OTC supplement, or is there a better means for this? Thank you
