What Causes Bruise/dicolouration Behind The Legs?

Hello, I fell down the stairs quite dramatically about 3 months ago - nothing broken. No apparent bruise directly after the fall. A week or two later I saw a strange bruise behind my leg and spoke to my doctor who reffered me to another doctor to check for veinal problems. None were noted though he prescribed stockings to help the circulation and Ginkofor (also to help circulation) This dicolouration has then spread behind my leg, up, down and on both sides. I returned to my doctor who sent me back to the specialist who has once more said that there is no damage to any vein. He has suggested that I see a shin specialist. He doesn t know why my leg changes colour. When I wear the stockings I can stay stranding with no discomfort, however with out the stocking (in the shower) I fel a bit of discomfort and my knee area becomes purple . My own doctor seems to think that the fall is just coincidence and nothing to do with the problem. I am female and 46 years old. Can you advise? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

I read your problem and understood your concern.
I tend to agree with your doctor that the accident seems a coincidence and you should get yourself evaluated for other causes of spontaneous bruises.

Get a complete blood workup done for platelet and clotting factor deficiency, and check your physician to rule out inflammation of vessels which may cause purpura. Take vitamin C supplements meanwhile.

Hope I helped
