Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 8 yr old daughter was attacked by a rooster, with him pecking her in the inner thigh. the wound was spurting blood from hitting an artery & it punctured the muscle as well. she was rushed to er and treated. it has been 6 weeks and there is still a lot of bruising. What artery do you think was hit? and can this cause any permanent damage?
As this looks like an injury to the branch of the femoral artery. As this will heal with time as the body is a medicine of its own. There is nothing major to worry for now.
The pain and bruising will take some time to heal and also the artery will be healed by the body's own protective mechanism.
I will advise making her do some simple thigh muscle strengthening exercises as due to injury to the branches of the femoral artery there is a possibility of muscles to become weak in the initial stages and now allowing enough strength to come now which can help her perform Activities of daily living. Once the muscle becomes stronger there will be no trouble faced.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
