What Causes Brownish Vaginal Discharge While Taking Pills?

To preface this, I am on the pill and have been for about 10 months. I ve taken it daily at the same time every day. I am due for my next period in three days. My cervical mucus has been a brownish color since last week. Then, last night, I started having a gooey bloody substance, kind of like what comes along with my period, but then it stopped and there was no actual regular bleeding. Again, tonight I had the same thing happen and then some clots. I am a little concerned and want to know what this might mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to premenstrual syndrome.

Brown discharge may be caused by the period which is just beginning to start and the flow is very light.

There is nothing to be worried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
