What Causes Brownish Black Period With Clotting?

Hi, My period was late by over a Month, when I finally got my period, it was a dark brownish black colour and clotted. It eventually changed to a dark red colour with small amounts of clotting. However, since I went over my due period date I have been feeling tired, nausea, dizzy, headaches and backaches. I was going to buy a pregnancy test but then I got my period. Could it be possible that I may be pregnant or is it just an irregular period? Please help! Thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. In the current scenario, it is more likely that you may have experienced some transient hormone imbalance. This can happen with sudden weight changes, stress and infections etc. The altered color of the bleeding is suggestive of collection inside the uterus. Your symptoms can happen with a very early pregnancy or hormone imbalance. To clarify, you can get the estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres and exclude/confirm pregnancy as the cause of this delay. Urine pregnancy tests are not of much use at this stage. Hope this helps.
