What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge?

Hi, so my girlfriend forgot to take a pill. She usually takes it at about 10 o clock everynight. I reminded her to take it the following afternoon. She also took her pill for that day later that night. We had unprotected sex that day as well. The next day she had some brown discharge. So my question is, could the discharge be from the pill she took late or could it be that she is pregnant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi

thanks for the query

I would like to tell you that its neither the pill, nor because she took it late.
Normally, brown vaginal discharge is nothing but old endometrial tissue(the inner lining of the uterus, which sheds during menstruation).

It can be also because of any infection present in the female genital tract.if this is the case,I want you check for other symptoms too like:
Often the discharge will have a foul odour
Itching
Burning sensation
Pain in the vaginal area
Swelling in the vaginal area
Painful intercourse.

In this case you need to consult her gynecologist,as she would require a pelvic examination, followed by a course of antibiotics, and other blood workups.
I find this answer helpful
