What Causes Brown Spotting During Pregnancy?

hi i am ment to be 8w2d pregnant, my last period started on mon 7th feb. on fri 18 march i had some brown spotting and got an appointment for an internal scan for tues 22 feb. by then i should have been 6w1d but my scan measured the baby at 5w1d. this was put down to late ovulation as my periods are irregular. this scan also had to finish quickly as i began to feel sick and my bp dropped. i had another scan two weeks later on tue 5 april but at this scan the baby only measured 6w and no heartbeat was found, the doctor said a mistake mite have been made on the measurements of the first scan as it had to end abruptly. im confused because i done my home pregnancy test on sat 5th march and got a positive result and the last time my partner and i had sex was sat 26 feb.im so confused is it possible that my baby is going through a slow growth period? or going by the dates could i be 6w pregnant? i have another scan next week on 12 april to look for a heartbeat. i have had a miscarriage last april. i also have a healthy boy whos almost 2

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Discrepancies in the gestational age calculations by ultrasound and last menstrual period can be due to wrong dates, delayed ovulation or slow fetal growth.
The cardiac activity should be visible in a fetus of 6 weeks, it can be a missed abortion also.
However, the diagnosis needs to be confirmed in ultrasound after2 weeks.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
