What Causes Breathlessness In Sleep?

yes i been having a problem for the past 2 days i have had hardly any sleep because i am trying to fall asleep i feel myself drifting off to sleep but then i suddenly open my eyes and have to take a deep breath because it feels like i am not breathing and i feel dizzy from it and my mouth and throat feel very dry even drinking a glass of water does not help should i go to the hospital right away?

Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
By your history and description, in my opinion you are having obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
It is due to obstruction to the upper air passage which causes sudden stoppage of respiration followed by awakening and breathlessness with dryness of throat.
Obstruction in the upper airway can be due to following causes.
1. Enlarged tongue
2. Enlarged adenoids
3. Enlarged tonsils
4. Obesity
5. Temparomaandibular (TM) joint deformity. Etc.
So consult ENT doctor and get done upper airway examination to rule out these causes.
Also get done sleep study for the diagnosis of OSA.
