Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The first 30 to 60 minutes when I lie down to go to sleep I gasp for air at least 3-4 times. Sometimes I have to adjust my pillow to elevate my head. I am a 53 yo female, post menopausal. I am not overweight. I would like to make an appointment with a specialist but do not know where to start. Sleep medicine, cardiology or other? I welcome your suggestions. Thank you.
It would be best to see your primary care physician or family physician first.
He or she would be able to assess all of your symptoms, your known medical history and then refer you to the person that would be best able to investigate and manage you. If you have no cardiac history (chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations), then it is unlikely that the symptoms are related to your heart.
I hope this helps
