What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Wheezing?

Why have I never ever been able to walk uphill, without being breathless and now I m wheezing. I m 66 on beta blockers for SVT and overweight at 13 stone for 5 ft 5inches. But even as a not overweight 18 year old I could not run. I m very strong and fit otherwise, so in a gym 30 years ago, my overall fitness was deemed good, but the strength element compensated for arobic fitness. I ve had half an an acre to attend to, a large house, all ok, but in flat Suffolk, where I was born. I ve now moved to hilly Devon, and walking now worries me as I just can t keep up. Yes I m overweight, so I need to address that, but please say some people are just not built for running or walking uphill?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of breathing difficulty and wheezing .Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like COPD symptoms , acute bronchitis , acid reflux , asthmatic condition , sleeping apnea or upper respiratory infection. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist for proper examination. Doctor may order chest x-ray, blood test and check vitals along with vitals. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory tract infection or post nasal drip or allergy specialist for asthma. Doctor may also recommend CPAP machine after sleep study . For now eat light at night , take benadryl twice a day and keep your head elevated while lying down. Avoid intake of outside food. Avoid cold, carbonated beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
