What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Nasal Bleeding After An Injury?

Hello. I slipped in the bath tub today and smashed the back of my head in the process (and cut my tongue open really bad). I went to nhs and they checked my head briefly and my tongue. Later tonight I noticed I had difficulty breathing through the nose and I saw it was bleeding a bit. Is it normal with a head injury?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Nose block with mild bleeding may be due to allergy or sinusitis or polyps or turbinate hypertrophy. After the head injury, it may be due to frontal cranial fossa injuries or mucosal abrasions.

Avoid vigorous blowing of the nose, use normal saline nasal spray. If your bleeding is severe you may consult your ENT specialist he will examine through endoscopy and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
