What Causes Breathing Difficulties While Treating Diabetes And High Blood Pressure?

I am a 49 year old female with type 2 diabetes, I was recently put on insulin to control my sugar levels which are no under control. I also take medicine for high blood pressure. I am experiencing breathing problems nightly and cannot sleep laying flat on my back or on either side without shortness of breathe. My breathing is labored and I have to sit up to get it under control. I have told my doctor about this problem but I am just given more drugs. I use to walk 5miles a day but can now barely walk to my car without pain and getting out of breath. I am overweight and my while watching my intake I am still gaining weight HELP

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

A chest x ray and ECG may be needed to assess the heart and lungs to determine if either the lungs or heart are the cause of your shortness of breath.
If heart issues are identified then further testing such as an echo, may be needed.

If these organs are normal then other causes such as anemia or anxiety would need to be considered.

I hope this helps
