Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my son is ten weeks old, i have noticed since he was born that he often looks very pale and goes a bluey grey colour around his mouth up to his nose and across his eye lids. He often catches his breath and stops breathing for several seconds, i am not sure if the two are related. Can you tell me why this may be happening as he is my third child and i did not experience these things with the first two. Many thanks.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I am limited as I am not able to see your baby when he is having an episode. Breath-holding spells occur between the ages of 6 months and 5 years. The child may be angry or hurt and cry. He holds his breath in expiration and becomes blue. He will have a seizure if he holds his breath for another 10-15 seconds. Your infant is not in the correct age range for this to be breath-holding spells. However, he does become blue. Is he a good feeder? Does he perspire during feeds? I recommend that you take him to his pediatrician to make sure there is no heart problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
