What Causes Breast Tenderness, Irregular Periods And Weight Gain While Having Mirena Iud?

Hello, I am 35 and have had a Mirena IUD for 4.5 years now. For the last 2 months I have been experiencing strange symptoms: constant breast tenderness/swelling, irregular bleeding/spotting, tired often, weight gain. Could I be pregnant? Are my hormones out of order due to age changes?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have been on Mirena IUD for 4.5 years and symptoms are rather recent, it is best to take a home pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy. Also, schedule an appointment with your ObGyn to assess the need to replace the IUD.

Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need further clarification.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
