What causes bowel urge incontinence?

I feel pressure like I have stool that needs to come out, but nothing happens when I go to the bathroom. Today I have not been able to urinate either. I have been taking a stool softener that is not helping. What can I do I home, I feel like If I could just go to the bathroom I would feel better, but the pain is not tolerable.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Constipation is a common cause of bowel urge incontinence.
The bowel movements get dry and hard and difficult to pass.
As a result, the muscles of the rectum and intestines stretch and weaken.
I suggest you to:
-continue the stool softeners
-drink liquids
-eat fiber rich diet

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
