What causes bowel incontinence?

I am waiting for spinal fusion S1-L5-L4. Starting a couple of weeks ago, I am having trouble defacating. It is now occurring more often. When I have a bowel movement, it's like it doesn't want to end. It is difficult to finish. It's like poop is caught and the sphincter muscle at the opening can't close. It took me 45 minutes this AM to finish.
