What Causes Bowel Incontinence Leading To Multiple Bowel Movements Per Day?

I have been experiencing multiple bowel movements per day. Every time I go to the bathroom to urinate, bowel matter comes out. I have also experienced bowel matter leaking and soiling me when I have no warning that I need to go to the bathroom. What is wrong?

Hi,

You have not mentioned your age.
There are three main types of faecal incontinence: (a)
overflow (b) reservoir and (c) rectosphincteric.
Overflow incontinence is specially seen in cognitively impaired, bedridden nursing home individuals.
Reservoir incontinence is seen in individuals with diminished colonic or rectal capacity. This condition is commonly seen with rectal ischemia, idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Rectosphincteric incontinence is seen in conditions associated
with structural damage to one or both anal sphincters, pudendal neuropathy affecting the external anal sphincter and or puborectalis muscle and/or rectal sensation, or degenerative or myogenic disorders affecting the internal or external anal sphincter.
Hence you need clinical evaluation of fecal incontinence including detail history and physical examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

You need some investigations to run in order to determine what is wrong:
- complete blood count
- abdominal ultrasound
- fecal analysis
- anoscopy

After evaluating the results we can say what is wrong.

Meanwhile, try to make some changes in your diet, avoid spicy/chilly foods; caffeinated drinks, alcohol, and others that would aggravate your symptoms.

Take probiotics early in the morning to stabilize intestinal flora. Discuss this further with your gastroenterologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

The bowel incontinence can be related to various possible causes as - anal sphincter problem
- inflammatory conditions of bowel as crohn's, IBS or else
- fistula in ano condition
- certain GI malignancies

An immediate visit to gastro specialist with colonoscopy is mandatory for best evaluation and care from this point.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
