Mostly viral infections are self healing and only management is symptomatic like, fever and generalized body aches can be managed by paracetamol. As you said there was think sputum with blood associated it can also be bacterial where you need to take medication like levofloxicin. In case your sputum change its color to green or rusty, you need to visit general physician as it can be pneumonia too.
