What Causes Blurred Vision?

I am suddenly having vision problems, including wavy vision on the edges and blind spots. I had this exact same problem a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I ve had the wavy vision off and on very very rarely (like once/year or less) for roughly 15 years. My mom had macular degeneration. I know it is hereditary. Is this the beginning of macular degeneration?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Usually the symptoms you describe point towards a retinal problem but not macular degeneration. This could be a vitreous degeneration or even a retinal hole causing the waviness. I would recommend you to get a dilated retinal examination done.

Hope it helps.
