What Causes Blue Discoloration On Knee Extending Till Thigh?

3 days ago an area of the skin behind one knee turned black & blue. A nurse said it was a cluster of small varicose veins. Yesterday, hours (after some range-of-motion exercise on that leg) the discoloration spread upward onto the skin of the thigh. Today the original part is fading a bit, but the part on the thigh is a little bigger. Now it goes from the back of the knee up much of the thigh. Why does it keep changing & enlarging? I always thought varicose veins were permanent once begun.

Respected Sir basically it seems to be varicose veins only. its venous incompetency and external appearance depends on many circumstential factors not necessarily will show up same all the times. for better relief get your legs elevated with 2-3 pillows below legs while resting. avoid excess standing ,sitting cross legs in same posture . have application of elastocrepe bandage as per guidance by your family doctor that will help you to much extent and most importantly avoid smoking tobacco consumption in all forms if doing. keep BP and sugar level under control. thanks dear regards hope this will help you to some extent.
