What Causes Blood In Urine?

my husband had a urine test done last week, the results showed blood in his urine. He has had a second test today and there is still blood. They had originally told him they would be able to tell him right away what the problem was. But after doing the tests the nurse told him he needs to see the Dr. next week. What could be the causes? and the solutions if its minor?
