What Causes Blood In Urine?

my father is 88 this year. He has had blood in urine for 6 weeks prior to going to his GP. Blood transfusion, 2pints were given. Hospital appointment scheduled for camera to be passed up his urethra. What are probable causes? Otherwise healthy, apart from both forms of arthritis normal weight (11st). Not on any medications.

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

Most common causes for blood in urine at your fathers age is Kidney stones , Stones in Bladder , Urine Infection and also Bladder cancer .

If he was my patient I would have done an Urine Examination which would have looked for Urine Infection . I would have also done an Ultrasound Abdomen Pelvis which would have looked for Kidney stones and Bladder stones .
If both the tests came normal or inconclusive I would have gone for Cystoscopy. ( camera to be passed up his urethra )

Hope this answers your query.
Any clarifications or Queries feel free to ask.
Happy to help you.
Regards.
