What Causes Blood In Stools?

I started University in September, since then I have been heavily drinking 2-3 times a week. Recently I have been getting blood when I poo, sometimes a little, but sometimes so much it turns the toilet water red. Are the two things linked? And should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to hemorrhoids.

Alcohol can trigger the symptoms. I suggest you use an over the counter anti-hemorrhoid cream such as Preparation H.

I also recommend soaking in warm water for relieving.

I suggest avoiding caffeinated drinks or alcohol which can trigger the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
