Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having common occurrences with blood mixed with my stool and a LOT of fresh colored blood mixed in with diarrhea looking stool in the toilet bowl. Today's was the worst yet, with much blood on toilet paper even after several wipes. This problem comes on in waves, but I also can have regular washroom stops with no signs of blood and regular stool. It looked like a very small bit had coagulated on the initial wipe, but I could be wrong. What's your best idea of what's going on?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Blood mixed stool and blood on wipes indicate one of the following or a combination of both. Hemorrhoids or piles as these are called. Fissure in ano. Polyps and ulcers. Infective colitis. This can be diagnosed by the following: Get the stool tested for a few days. Tests of blood and urine. Ultrasonography of abdomen. Per-rectal digital examination. Ano-proctoscopy and colonoscopy. All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and thus give a plan of management. A course of an antibiotic, metronidazole may be needed. Further management as per the cause found.
