Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 50 years old. About 70 lbs over weight, have not had unprotected sex in a few years now. This morning I noted red blood mix with my sperm when I masturbated... This was very unsettling. Is this a symptom of STD or something else altogether? There has no other bleeding or brushing noted on my body. Is there anything you can tell me???
Hello and welcome to HCM, Blood in semen can occur due to trauma to the reproductive tract, infection, inflammation sexually transmitted disease, growth like polyp or carcinoma. Is the problem of blood in semen recurrent one or it has occurred for the first time? You need to observe if the problem is recurrent. And also if there is presence of any of the above mentioned symptoms. Practicing safe sex rules out the possibility of sexually transmitted disease. Infection and inflammation can be a possibility especially when associated with features of infection like burning micturition, discharge etc. You can observe the symptoms for now and further investigations will be required if you observe blood in semen repeatedly.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
