What Causes Blood Clot To Come Out Of Ears?

I banged the top of my head about a week ago playing with my grandson in a park. It was a steel object. I knelt down to tie his shoes & came up. I saw stars I felt like something tingle down the side of my head I rubbed my head & forgot about it. Yesterday clotted blood came out from my ear. Do you think it was from the injuiry? or is it a medical problem?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi, clotted blood from ear can come either from the external auditory canal or tympanic membrane and beyond. The external auditory canal (EAC) bleeds usually because of laceration of skin lining the EAC which can be injured with a bud/match stick injury or with trauma head and injury to bones forming the external auditory canal. The bleeding from inside comes usually post trauma. Your head trauma can be a reason for clotted blood coming out which might have had seeped into the EAC at that time and has now came out. If there are no associated symptoms, then you can just relax. If there are any associated symptoms like tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo or frequent bleeding/discharge, you should consult an ENT. Sometimes dark colored wax can also look like clotted blood and needs to be differentiated. Regards
