What Causes Blob Of Cervical Mucus With Dark Red And Dark Brown Blood?

My periods have always been regular. Eight days following finishing my last period I observed a blob of cervical mucus with dark red and dark brown blood. As the day continued the mucus was thinner and was light brown in appearance. The following days mucus was normal then this morning it was a cream colour with slight brown now it s normal again? GP done swab for infection and smear however advised there was a cervical polyp therefore smear results maybe abnormal? Waiting for referral to gynaecology for polyp. Really worried.

Hello,

The symptoms are more consistent with infective causes like yeast or bacterial vaginosis. Consult a gynecologist and plan for a vaginal swab to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
