What Causes Bleeding Of Old Scar Present On The Knee?

I have an old scar from 1978, by my knee cap that just started to bleed last week. Not sure why. I had arthritis in that same knee. Had orthoscopic surgery couple of years ago to scrap off the arthritis. Not sure if these two things are related. Why would a almost 40 year old scar just start to bleed?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Bleeding from scar this old should not be considered normal.

The reason causing this may be poor local skin condition or high blood sugar. Have you tested for diabetes lately? Are there any conditions that might be causing repeated minor trauma to the area and you have not noticed?

My advise to you is to get tested for diabetes and visit your physician for examination of the scar. Please do not ignore the condition.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I will be glad to answer your follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
