What Causes Bleeding From The Ear While On Eliquis And Metoprolol?

Hi, My mother is taking Eliquis, metoprolol, and levothyroxine. She is currently having issues with an ear infection, and was given the z-pac to treat it. it has been 10 days since, but she is still having bleeding from the effected ear. Is this caused by her meds, and should she see her doc. right away about it? Thanks, from a very concerned daughter.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Eliquis is a blood thinner, which is used to prevent the formation of blood clots, which can be responsible for ear bleeding since the infection has been treated.
In the case of your mother, I recommend the necessity of a medical examination by an ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialist to make sure the absence of any type of injury responsible for that bleeding and also your mother will need to visit her cardiologist to adjust the dose of Eliquis to avoid any other type of bleeding in the future.

Hope I answered your question
Wish your mother a speedy recovery
Best regards
Dr. Noor Farid
