What Causes Bleeding During Pap Smear Test?

Hi, yes I recently got a Pap smear and my doctor said oh wow we might have to redo this test because you are bleeding and if there is too much blood they won t be able to get a good reading. I honestly felt that she didn t want to do it cause I had asked her about it before and she kept brushing it off with my anemia cause she was so concerned about it. Well today I got a call from her nurse and she said that I would have to come back to her office again to redo the pap and I was so upset I told her nurse that the doctor had made me bleed for 2 days and it was more than just spotting and I was not going to see her again or have to pay again for the cost of the pap. Please help me and direct me in what I should be doing. Thank you

Hello,
Bleeding after a pap smear can happen if the procedure was traumatic, if the tissues are unhealthy or if it has been done just around a menstrual period. In the current scenario, you need to have a second opinion as to why there was bleeding when the pap smear was done; if it meant a faulty procedure or an unhealthy tissue. The latter calls for further investigation like colposcopy to know if there is any abnormal tissue growth that needs further treatment. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
