What Causes Bleeding And Swelling Of Gums In Infants?

Hi one of my 13 months old twins has been havimg swollen and bleeding gums for 3 months now. Is this normal or is it a sign of serious medical problem? He eats well, sleeps well, and happy and active no other signs of illness other than the severe cold/viral infections he s experienced back in December. Please help me to understand the cause of his ongoing bleeding / swollen and sensitive time. He s now almost 14 months old. Thanks!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain bleeding gums along with swelling in your 13 months old twins seems to be most probably due to the process of TEETHING as in this age group the milk teeth keeps eruption and is a common cause for swollen and bleeding gums...
As they do not have any other signs of any discomfort or illness you need not to worry as it does not seems to be a sign of any underlying serious illness and is most probably due to teething only..
I would suggest you to do cool compresses over their gums..
You can use an ultra soft tooth brush to brush their teeth..
Keep the oral cavity clean by cleaning with a soft and clean cloth after every meal..
Give then a soft and bland diet..
In case if the symptoms worsen like there is any pain or discomfort consult a Paediatric dentist [Pedodontist] and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
