What Causes Bleeding And Discomfort In Throat?

Hi.I was trying to clear my throat this morning as felt like it had got catarrh in it , then after a little while of trying to clear throat I felt something move and come up in mouth but it was quite a lot of blood but throat was then clear . Blood went on for about 2-3 minutes but since then no sign of any blood.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of bleeding and discomfort in throat which seems to be due to inflammation of tonsils that is tonsillitis or due to pharynx leading to pharyngitis or due to strep throat. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. At home, you can take these steps to relieve sudden discomfort of throat such as

- Drink plenty of water and other fluids each day.
- Run a humidifier in your home to keep the air moist.
- Do warm saline gargles .
- Try an over-the-counter antihistamine.
