What Causes Bleeding After A Tonsillectomy?
I need some peace of mind. 5 days after a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, is the presence of a slow bleed (very slow) from a pencil eraser sized area (which has now turned into a growing blood blister) cause for concern? We called the ENT and he somewhat brushed it off saying that it was probably just raw skin (on the phone, no visual evaluation). There has been no taste/smell of blood and there has been no blood in gargled water. Is it safe to ignore this and just let it scab over on its own? This is in a 24 yo M patient. Bleed was first noticed 4 hrs ago and was accompanied with immense pain.

Bleeding is very common during tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy recovery time.
This small bleeding area, might be a laceration of the mucosa due to the food, or it might be caused by a falling scab, and is associated to pain.
You should have cold liquid diet, because hot and hard food increases risk of bleeding.
However bleeding after tonsillectomy sometimes might be an important complication, so if it continues you should consult you ENT surgeon for a local examination of the throat.
