What Causes Bleeding Abscess Below The Tailbone?

Hello. My 15-year old said he had a mesquito bite on his butt and it kept bleeding. He gave me a chance to look (after showing me the blood on the toilet paper) and it s not a mesquito bite. He has a polyp-like growth at the top of his buttocks, just below his tail bone. We re definitely going to take him to our family doctor. What could this be?

Hello,

The polyp-like growth along with bleeding could be a sinus, most likely a pilonidal sinus which is characteristically present below the tail bone.

You need to consult a surgeon for clinical assessment for correct diagnosis. Polyp-Like growth may require surgical excision.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
